In a move that is being seen as fostering a de-carbonised future for the mining industry, An all-electric powered HiLux is being trialled on a BHP minesite, with one unfortunate schmuck destined to have to drive the thing.

The groundbreaking trial comes as the company seeks to determine how quickly workers turn on the nerd that gets stuck driving the new electric vehicle.

BHP President Geraldine Slattery lauded the step forward in innovation for her company and the wider mining community.

“This is a great move for us in terms of shutting up the green sooks,” she remarked.

“I do feel sorry for the poor loser who has to drive the glorified remote control car though.”

“The boys on site are going to tear him to shreds. Ah well, it’s all in the name of science!”

BHP site manager Hector Stinck, 52, told the Bugle the vehicle is sure to draw attention on site.

“I have already started coming up with nicknames,” he admitted.

“Sparky, cock-shocker, among others I’ve jotted down in my pre-start handbook.”

“If you saw how rabid this team gets when discussing electric cars, you’d agree that whoever gets stuck in that glorified Hot Wheels is in for a rough swing.”
