Karratha is still reeling after local watering hole North West Brewing Co. narrowly missed out on taking home a third consecutive “Best Steak Sandwich In WA” award in June, ultimately falling short to competitor Treendale Farm.
Owned by hospitality group LocalsCo, The Treendale Farm is one of six pubs owned by the millionaires, alongside The Subiaco Hotel, Bayswater Hotel and more.
North West Brewing attempted to pull off another David vs Goliath effort against the odds but came up short in 2024, along with 4 of the other LocalsCo locations that were also entered into the competition.
Speaking to one of the judges, they offered their condolences to the Karratha based pub.
“Look, NW Brewing made a great steak sanga, but when you have the funds to bring in food scientists from across the globe, there’s not a whole lot you can do to compete.” They said.
“These guys NW Brewing are up against have the coin to fly chefs in from Paris, source eggs from nearly extinct birds from exotic locations and most certainly put a few Donald Bradmans in my shirt pocket.”
“LocalsCo are gentrifying at a rate of knots, they are purchasing dives and turning them into homogenous, family pubs quicker than you can say ‘I accepted a bribe’.”
Rumour has it North West Brewing Co. are already looking to 2025.
