“Don’t fear everyone, the town looks just as shit as it did yesterday!”

Residents in Port Hedland reported hearing intense “booming noises” last week, and not from the usual source of their neighbours sound system at 3am on a weeknight playing “Young, Wild & Free” again for the 15th time.

The town was struck by a series of 8 earthquakes over the course of 24 hours, ranging between 2-4 in magnitude.

Senior Seismologist from Geoscience Australia Brogan Hoglinton was in town briefly and spoke with our reporter to describe the phenomenon.

“It was a pretty unusual event, that is for sure,” he said.

“Unfortunately, given the fact that even on a good day Hedland looks like it has been hit by a severe hurricane, it will be very difficult for us to study the effects of these recent seismological events.”

The Town of Port Hedland was swift in issuing a statement briefly after the earthquakes in an attempt to reassure residents.

“We are aware there were quite significant events that unfolded recently and we are still assessing the extent of the damage.” The statement read.

“Our initial assumptions were that perhaps Rio or BHP were conducting blasting at another 40,000 year old, culturally integral indigenous site but they later confirmed that wasn’t taking place until next week, and that the boom would be considerably louder.”

“We are currently in talks with insurers about the potential to write off South Hedland entirely and current estimates of compensation stands at around $400.”
