The usual suspects of Karratha’s Facebook community groups are nowhere to be seen today, after a local business posted CCTV footage of a chubby white guy stealing overnight and received 900% less comments than if it was of an indigenous Australian.
Normally more than willing to share their opinions on security camera footage of theft posted in community groups online, the profile pictures of Monaro utes or fat blokes holding mackerel were unsurprisingly absent from the post this morning given the race of the thief was ambiguous.
The Bugle spoke with anthropologist Gus Stevens, who stated that cognitive bias is widespread among redneck demographics.
“It’s a simple case of ‘Us vs Them'” he said.
“These ideological peons have plenty to say when the culprit is indigenous, but get a bit gun-shy as soon as a white guy shows up on the CCTV.”
“It’s the same unoriginal morons who would think it’s funny to comment on a post asking for a snake ID calling it ‘nope rope’ or “Australis Dontfuckiswithit.”
Whilst the identifying features of the thief were obscured with a facemask, the ‘Baz n Jolene’ accounts known for posting comments like “If its there countrie then y dont they start actin lyk it?” clearly erred on the side of caution today given the possibility the thief might have been their Husband/Cousin.
