The Karratha Bugle is having a watershed moment.

We were able – after months of networking, dead ends and intense negotiations with shady contacts – able to secure an exclusive interview with the 13-year-old kid who runs one of the biggest rock throwing cells in the North West. In the end, all it cost was a case of Monster Energy Drink.

Kory Addison (name changed for legal reasons) estimates he has smashed well over a thousand windows in his time and got his start throwing rocks for leisure at the tender age of 7.

“Ah, yep – those were the days,” Kory said, clad head to toe in black clothing and wearing a ski mask.

“My first real winner was when I pinged a BMW X5 and took off the side mirror completely,”

“Now, I’m not really satisfied until I take out every window and put a few good dings in the side for good measure.”

Kory runs a loyal ‘unit’ of rock-throwing kids ranging between the ages of 8-15. In between their schedule of eating cereal and watching Spongebob Squarepants, they head out onto the streets and start hurling projectiles at anything made of glass or tin.

Rock throwing in Carnarvon has been a recurring issue for years with the towns disengaged youth. Most recently a Transperth bus had a window completely smashed.

Local police and community groups are at the end of their tether trying to manage the issue, something which Kory takes great pride in undermining.

“Fuck the jakes eshay,” he blurted out when our reporter raised the topic of law enforcement.

BusWest met with police this week to devise a plan to try and curb the issue. We spoke to CEO Melissa Teale briefly about their plan.

“It’s simple,” she said.

“We are going to start throwing rocks back,”

“We sent a group of our bus operators out to a local quarry to pick up some nice hefty stones and from the start of the new financial year, every driver in the North West will now be equipped with 5-10 golf ball sized hunks of basalt or granite,”

“The program is costing the government $40 million but we feel it is justified.”

Causing millions in damage, disrupting and intimidating locals and potentially harming others – we asked Kory what the real motivation was behind this unruly act.

“Shit sounds cool when you smash it lad,” he said bluntly.
